Financial support

Unexpected hospital stays, life-changing injuries and requirements for extended hospital admission and long-term recovery can place pressure on family finances.

The Hugh James Emergency Fund provides non-repayable grants to help ease immediate financial strain. These grants can support essential costs such as travel, temporary accommodation, food and toiletries, and childcare. To access The Hugh James Emergency Fund, please contact the Patient Liaison Practitioner the Major Trauma Centre or your Major Trauma Practitioner or Rehabilitation Co-ordinator if you are at a Trauma Unit.

Eligibility for the Emergency Fund is assessed independently by the Patient Liaison Practitioner. Hugh James is not involved in assessing applications or deciding whether a grant is awarded. There is no obligation to use Hugh James’ legal services to apply for or receive a grant from the Emergency Fund.

We can also offer practical assistance, including speaking with mortgage lenders on your behalf about payment holidays, liaising with financial providers regarding a change in circumstances, and checking whether any relevant insurance policies may apply. If you have any financial stresses and you are not sure whether we can help, please get in touch and we will listen and try to help.

Independent financial advice and financial planning health checks are also available at no cost from the Hugh James Independent Financial Advisers team.

If you would like to access financial support, please contact us to discuss how we can help.
